Following Christ begins in the home. Our family life provides the richest environment for lasting spiritual growth. Therefore, at Smyrna Baptist Church we emphasize the importance of godly homes, marriages built upon the foundation of Christ, and children taught the way of God. The prophet Malachi explains one of God's main purposes in marriage:

Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth. Malachi 2:15 (English Standard Version)

Bringing up blessed, godly children begins with a blessed and godly marriage. Parents who walk together in the Spirit of God and serve one another with the affection of Christ Jesus establish a strong union. Children brought up within that covenant experience the freedom to develop according to God's design.

At Smyrna Baptist Church we want to help parents develop enduring marriages rooted in the Scriptural understanding of the marriage covenant and watered by the Spirit's presence. Our teaching encourages couples to follow Christ in their homes. We provide fellowship for families and encouragement to parents.

We also come alongside of families to build upon what is begun in the home. Our Sunday morning children's church program allows children to experience worship with the whole church and then to have a time of worship specifically designed for children, while their parents can focus upon hearing God's word. We also offer a Wednesday night discipleship time for our children called Team Kids. Team Kids encourages children to memorize Scripture, discuss spiritual lessons with their families, and apply Jesus' teaching in their homes.

Our new youth program on Wednesday nights, likewise, allows our students to join with the church in worship and prayer time, connecting them to the life of the whole church, and then allowing them to experience worship, fellowship, and teaching with the needs of teens in mind.
